SPRING -- MISSING IN ACTION?
It's nearly that time again and most of us can't wait. Spring, the season of rebirth and regeneration, is just around the corner. This
winter has been a trial for just about every area of the US. Huge storms, one after the other, have bedeviled large areas of the
country. Thanks ultimately to climate change we have seen record low temperatures, record high snowfalls, and a new low on the
"misery index." One result is that the Earth's transition to spring is off schedule and out of character.
This year, when spring officially arrives next month, we will be tallying records associated with storms, floods and more. One

Earth than last year. That's right - the best estimate science can provide tells us that every year somewhere around
10,000 species are lost through extinction. They no longer exist. Every year, as has been the case for decades, we continue
to destroy plants, animals, fish, birds, fruits and vegetables - the stuff of life. Extinction has struck on every continent,
in every country, in virtually every place that we gather. Perhaps most disturbing is the fact that many of the species that
are lost each year are unknown - they vanish before we discover them. And of those we have described and studied many interact with
other life forms in their habitat in ways we will never know. ...MORE
