Maui's Best Fine Hawaiiana Artist Cynthia Conrad is a painter of vintage Hawaiiana in the realistic tradition. Her preferred mediums are watercolor, acrylics and oil paints. Still life paintings of Hawaiian lamps, statues, aloha shirts and kitsch are her favorites, but the exotic fruits, flowers and foliage of Hawaii also interest her as subject matter.

AUSTRALIA FIRES RAGE ON

As I write this Australia is still burning. Some reports indicate that well over 100 fires in nearly every section of the continent are out of control. Estimates of wildlife loss go as high as 1 billion, including many endemic species which may go extinct as a result of the fires. So far about 15 million acres have burned across the country - an area roughly the size of West Virginia - and there is no reason to believe that these fires won't continue burning and growing for a long time to come.
View from space shows the scope of the fires Australia's fires are, in part, a function of the longest drought in Australia since Europeans first began to settle the continent.
